There was a permanent shift in the coastal area in the Philippines that affected human and ocean life. On June 8, 2026 26 km SW of Kablalan. The megaquake caused the Cotabato Trench to lift the seabed in Sarangani and Davao Occidental by up to 2 metres.It was reported that the seafloor became the shoreline several times during the earthquake. This is known as a coastal uplift. The seafloor rose 200 meters or 650 feet. It no longer is ocean waters, just dry land. Exposed coral has killed surrounding sea life.
According to Volcano Discovery, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake will produce an estimated combined seismic energy of 3.7 x 1016 joules (10233 gigawatt hours, equivalent to 8.8 x 106 tons of TNT or 550.3 atomic bombs!).
