Senior Nursing Home Abuse Trend

Seniors Abuse Trend  The Language Barrier Not Provided is an Excuse in a Nursing Home

November 3, 2017

Elders  will be exploited in a nursing facility regardless. And after a complaint, when the Director of the Home Care Facility says well you can put your mother or father in another nursing home it is a red flag  to worry. You see, the whole concept of Nursing homes is a new thing over the course of a century. A nursing home is the same as foster care , or group home. In most cases there is alot of emotional abuse to say the least. Nursing homes is not exactly going to the movies or a nice home cooked meal.  The concept of a nursing home was first introduced:

Starting in the 17th century, the concept of poorhouses (also referred to as almshouses) were brought to America by English settlers. All orphans, mentally ill and the poor elderly were placed into these living commons. These poorhouses gave a place where they could be given shelter and daily meals. Poorhouses continued to exist into the early 20th century despite the criticism they faced. Much of the criticism stemmed from the conditions of the poorhouses. The Great Depression overwhelmed the poorhouses as there were a lot of people that needed help and care but not enough space and funding in the poorhouses. Due to Muck Raking in the 1930s the less than favorable living conditions of the poorhouses were exposed to the public.[3] Poorhouses were then replaced with a different type of residential living for the elderly. These new residential living homes were called board-and-care homes or also known as convalescent homes.

16x9 The Real Truth: Senior's Home Abuse Caught on Camera

In the hands of the nursing home, most likely a floor manager who is in charge emotional Abuse, Neglect and Institutional Abuse among Seniors is most common in Canada. Because it can happen in the most subtle way and later progress to a greater abuse.  The floor manager where your loved one is living in, will find ways to intimidate and become more hostile each time . In return the floor manager and staff will gang up with vengeance on the senior that is left alone to defend themselves. In most cases, visitors are never seen in nursing homes. Not provide the senior with their own language leaves room for the institution to continue the abuse. Nursing homes are full of employees that work temporary , floaters and part time. However the floor manager in charge has all the power to cause the chaos among visitors as they are heavily monitored and spied on. Sometimes the full time nurse is unfriendly and has no manners.

In Canada, take for example the Nursing homes are licensed provincially not federally and it is difficult to find help when it comes to a senior being admitted to a nursing without the homeland language. And so the institution or nursing home will see that as an advantage to get away with neglect and isolation. In this type of case, the senior and leaving them last in everything and not providing the proper care.

In general, for the good of the senior it is best to stay with a loved one than having to leave the last years of their lives with strangers. These strangers will never get use to the living conditions of the institution because of the amount of subtle neglect and abuse they will endure up to the point they die. So no one should ever put their loved ones in a nursing home. If you think a stranger will do a better job taking care of your loved one than you are far from wrong. Allowing yourself to be surround by family and friends is the best you will do and having the trust of our Lord Jesus Christ

No a days, nursing homes are not seen as a business providing customer service to the families, even though they are. There is a  lack of respect for the families. The pure fact that an elder has lived with a loved one all their lives means nothing to the institutionalize business of a nursing home.

So try your very best to never put your loved one in a nursing home. Do Not bother being on  a waiting list because there is nothing to look forward to.  Making fun of the language is a big one because if the institution director fails to provide the proper language of the admitted senior than it leaves room for all employees to laugh at everything that is being communicated. This will cause anxiety in the elder. Whatever your religion , simply bringing a statue such as the virgin mary to the nursing home will offend some people's faith in return the constant abuse will occur. Take for example doing the rosary. Not being allowed to do the rosary in the seniors home and constantly creating noises or distractions when doing the rosary will occur many times in a Nursery Home by staff. Keeping you from seeing your family is a big one, that is done a the most subtle ways. The floor manager will usually create some kind of friction each time you visit. Showing the family visitor that they are the authority to everything even a shirt or food you bring your loved one. Each time you visit their hostility becomes worst. It is a slow progress. Hygiene. Preventing elder with proper utensils during meal time. Specially if the elder can not communicate in the same language.
Threatening family members with calling the Police is the worst. Do not ever visit a home care  nursing facility on your own you will need witnesses. Usually a floor manager will gang up on you if you come on your own. If this happens to you then it is a sign that they are abusing the senior admitted. So in any case do not admit your elder to a nursing home ever. Try finding a whole floor locked down for over a week because over 30 elders were sick at the same time have respitory disease and a death occurred.

Here are some facts of the many factors that
 occur in a nursing home:

Emotional Abuse

Making fun of your language, traditions, religious or spiritual beliefs, or preventing you from practicing your religion

Keeping you from seeing your family, friends or community

Neglect

Neglect is the failure to provide adequately for a dependent adult. As an older adult, you may be at risk of abuse (including neglect) because of where you live (alone, with family, or in an institution) or because you depend on other people for basic help with daily living or financial support. You may receive help with intimate care – like feeding, dressing or bathing. You may depend on someone to give you your medication. These are situations where abuse can take place.
Oversight or deliberate acts of neglect can involve:
Not giving you proper food or clean clothing

Not providing you with a safe, warm, clean place to live Failing to provide adequate health care, medication and personal hygiene Failing to provide aids for daily living, like hearing aids, walkers, canes, wheelchairs, grab bars Failing to prevent physical harm Failing to ensure you have proper supervision (if needed). Some forms of neglect are crimes in Canada, including failure to provide the necessities of life and criminal negligence causing bodily harm or death.

Institutional Abuse or Neglect

Senior abuse may take place in the home, the community or in an institution.
Older adults living in institutional care facilities may experience abuse that is a single incident of poor professional practice or part of a larger pattern of ill treatment. This may include:
Inadequate care and nutrition,
Low standards of nursing care
Inappropriate or aggressive staff-client interactions
Overcrowding
Substandard or unsanitary living conditions
Misuse of physical restraints or medications
Ineffective policies to meet residents’ needs
Low levels of supervision.
